About

I'm Szymon Palczynski, an automation software engineer based in the west of Ireland. Techsolid Automation is my company. There is nobody between you and the work: I write the code, test it and stand next to the machine when it starts up.

Most of my project work is PLC and HMI programming for machine builders whose end clients make pharmaceuticals and medical devices. That means code that has to be readable years later, changes that have to be traceable, and documentation that has to pass a quality review.

Background

I have worked in automation since 2009. I started on paper converting lines in Poland, troubleshooting and modifying Siemens S7 control systems in production. I ran Techsolid as a sole trader from 2014, moved to Ireland in 2016 for a controls role in medical device manufacturing, and set up Techsolid Automation Limited in 2017.

Since then the work has been PLC, HMI and robot programming for machine builders and integrators, on Rockwell and Siemens platforms with ABB, Universal Robots, Epson and Mecademic robots. I have commissioned machines in Ireland, Italy, Germany, the United States, Mexico, Brazil and the Philippines.

Why I build software too

PLC work has a tooling problem. Testing logic needs hardware or an expensive licence. Documentation is written by hand from code that already describes what it does. Checkout and test records live in spreadsheets. I started building browser-based simulators and test tools to fix that on my own projects, and now build them for clients.

The same applies to AI. Language models are good at the reading, writing and checking that fills a regulated project. I build agents with a defined job, running on your data where your data is allowed to go, with an engineer reviewing the output. Not a chatbot bolted onto the side.
